Trails Carolina - A Therapeutic Wilderness Program for Troubled Teens and Their Families

Research has shown that pre-adolescents
thrive in safe, predictable and structured
environments, and we have designed
our youth program to incorporate these
  and other specific developmental needs
   of 10-13 year old boys.

   Why Youth Wilderness

  • Outcome studies show that early interventions provide greater chances for long term emotional stabilization.
  • Early parental involvement through individualized parent treatment plans and ongoing workshops and family calls increase the potential for successful family reunification and long term stabilization.
  • Active parental involvement decreases the risk of the development of maladaptive coping strategies such as substance use/abuse, promiscuity, and severe rule breaking behavior.
  • Unified, structured parenting plans decrease relapse of negative behavioral issues patterns.

Research has shown that pre-adolescents thrive in safe, predictable and structured environments. We have designed our youth program to incorporate these and other specific developmental needs of 10-13 year old youth.  In addition to integrating our six core values (Trust, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Leadership and Service “TRAILS”), our youth program meets our students where they are and guides them along their journey to change, hope and self-respect.  Our curriculum is presented in a concrete and linear manner so that our students can fully understand the information and move successfully through each individual phase.  In addition to our standard curriculum, each phase can be tailored to meet the individual needs of each student. Each of our staff is specially trained in the unique needs of this age group and they actively encourage and support each student to access and build upon their strengths.
