Making the decision to send your child
away is no small task. We are here for
you every step of the way.
Here is a summary of our enrollment process into
Trails Carolina.
1. APPLICATION
As you begin the journey of finding the right placement for your child it is absolutely crucial for us to understand what your child's individual needs are, and how they can best be supported and strengthened. Our therapists specialize in a number of issues ranging from Attachment Disorders to Substance Abuse, and have not only the credentials to work with your child but also the passion.
Our goal from the very beginning is to ensure that we are the absolute best placement for your child. To that end we ask each family that is interested in enrolling their child into Trails to complete a thorough application.
Completion of this application doesn't commit you to anything, rather it helps to answer the ever important question, "Is this the right place for my child?"
We encourage every parent to complete the application even if they are not sure they are ready to make a final decision. You can find the application HERE.
2. ENROLLMENT DOCUMENTS
Before we can begin working with your child we need to have the appropriate documentation on file. This ensures the absolute best care for your child. Upon approval of your application you will need to complete the enrollment documents in their entirety and send back to us.
You can access the Enrollment Documents HERE. You will be required to insert a password, so please contact the admissions department at 877-387-2457 once you are ready to complete these.

Transport Options
Initial Crisis Intervention and Transportation
At times it is necessary for families in crisis to obtain the professional services of “Transition Mediators” or Escort Companies. We believe that if this step is necessary the process in which it is handled is vital to the emotional stability and well being of your child.
There are many reputable organizations located across the country. Trails Carolina has developed relationships with several organizations and is happy to provide contact information based on the specific needs of each family. Please contact our Admissions Department at 1.888.387.2457 for additional information. If your family is utilizing the guidance of a highly skilled Educational Consultant or Clinical Professional we strongly recommend that you speak with your professional prior to requesting contact information from our Admissions Department.
While investigating agencies these are questions we recommend you ask:
1. What types of personalities do you look for in an employee?
2. Does your organization require all mediators to be W-4 employees?
3. What type of professional liability insurance do you have? What does it cover? Can I obtain a copy?
4. What types of training certifications requirements do you have? And how often to you require your employees to re-certify?
5. What types of background checks are completed on your employees?
6. Do you have written policies in place that mandate “no physical restraints will be used at anytime throughout the transport?”
7. How should we start the intervention process with our child?
8. How will your agents respond if my child becomes verbally abusive, threatening or violent?
9. What should I do about my other children in the house?
10. What if my child does not want to go?
11. What if my child tries to run away?
12. Will your organization allow my child to smoke cigarettes? Or use the phone?
13. What policies are in place that requires all my child’s questions to be answered in an open honest manner?
14. Is it a good idea for me to write a note or letter to my child explaining the therapeutic program or school?
5. STUDENT ARRIVAL
The schedule on the day of admission consists of obtaining a short sports physical (including blood work), getting outfitted with all their clothing and gear, taking inventory of all items brought with your child, and preparing them to meet with the group. Trails will ensure that the student gets lunch / dinner throughout the process, and will make every effort to help your child feel comfortable throughout the day.
When your child arrives at Trails, the admissions counselor working with the family will be updated on his/her current mood and emotional well being. You can then expect a phone call with a general update on how your child is doing. In addition to this general update, the admissions counselor will inform you on when they can expect to hear from the therapist that has been assigned to work with the family. Therapists make every effort to contact the family within 24 hours of the child’s arrival.
6. RELAX
For most parents this is the hardest part. Rest assured that with over 80 years of experience your child is in very capable hands. We take great pride in meeting each student where they are at to make their time here as effective as possible.
